Job Context:

Handicap International-Humanity & Inclusion (HI) has been working in Bangladesh since 1997, focusing on creating sustainable changes to ensure the rights and inclusion of people with disabilities in society.

HI is currently looking for a Team Manager for its “Enhancing the well-being of refugees and the underprivileged host communities in Cox’s Bazar through inclusive and complementary protection, health, education, and advocacy interventions” project funded by ECHO.

Job Location: Ukhiya

Type of Contract: Fixed-Term

Duration of the Contract: As early as possible to 30 June 2025

Line Manager: Project Manager

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Team Manager contributes to the implementation of the mandate and the 10-year strategy of Humanity & Inclusion in the country where s/he is based. The Team Manager contributes to the implementation of his/her project, ensuring the optimal quality and impact of the project. S/he works closely with the programme technical team and support services. S/he is the direct manager of a project team.

Responsibilities:

Mission 1: Management

  • Manager as a role model: embody HI's values daily and be a role model.
  • Manager as a coach for meaning: understand the strategy, make it explicit, translate it into operational objectives for his or her team, and lead the necessary changes. Give meaning to each management action. Encourage inter- and intra-departmental exchanges of practice. Encourage innovation and risk-taking.
  • Operational manager: organizes the operational management of his or her team, structures the workaround identified processes, steers performance, and facilitates the resolution of problems.
  • First HR & Coach: contribute to developing his or her staff, creating the conditions for their commitment, professionalism, and attachment to HI. Ensure compliance with the code of conduct, institutional policies, mindset, and expected individual and collective behavior.

Mission 2: Operational implementation

  • Responsibility 1: Contribute to project planning and implementation in line with the existing frameworks
  • Contribute to planning and preparing activities, tools, and the associated resources, and implement the action plan in conjunction with the support services and the technical unit.
  • Ensure that activities are implemented and that resources are correctly allocated as authorized by the project manager.
  • Ensure regular reporting of activities and contribute to the internal and external reporting as requested by the project manager.
  • Contribute to identifying areas of the project in which adjustments are required and put forward adaptations to the project manager.
  • Contribute to the drafting of amendment requests when asked by the project manager.
  • Contribute to coordination with the local stakeholders and to monitoring the partnership relationship with the project partners.
  • Ensure that project documents and information are properly archived.
  • Responsibility 2: Contribute to project monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning
  • Contribute to project monitoring, specifically activity progress indicators and the expected outcomes.
  • Contribute to project evaluations at the request of the project manager, and ensure that project evaluation recommendations are followed.
  • Contribute to the setup and smooth running of accountability mechanisms.
  • Contribute to project learning.
  • Ensure that the appropriate data collection and management tools are in place and are used correctly on the project, in line with global standards.
  • Collect and compile project-related data in the relevant database.
  • As authorized by the project manager, facilitate coordination meetings between the project teams and the support services located in the area, as and when necessary.
  • Ensure that the project teams and the support teams (shared and technical services, in particular) work well together to facilitate the implementation of the project in the country.
  • Contribute to HI’s external influence by taking part in networks when required.
  • Communicate about the project to partners, authorities, and stakeholders when relevant.

Mission 3: Emergency Preparedness and Response

  • Contribute to the programme’s emergency preparedness initiatives, and in an emergency, adapt his/her working arrangements to contribute to an effective humanitarian response from HI.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Management, Development Studies, Public Health, Social Science, Psychology, Education, Livelihood, Rehabilitation Science (Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy/Prosthetics and Orthotics, Speech and Language Therapy), or any other similar/relevant field. Additional Requirements:

  • Age Minimum 18 years

  • Both males and females are allowed to apply

  • At least 4 years of experience working in the humanitarian and development fields.
  • At least 2 years of experience in the field and project supervision, including team supervision/support in field-level coordination/planning and monitoring.
  • Excellent facilitation, and representation skills (training, awareness sessions, CwC), etc.
  • Ability to lead and guide the team with strong team management and a teamwork approach.
  • Proven good analytical and activity planning skills.
  • Good communication skills in both verbal and written in Bangla and English.
  • Availability to travel to remote areas and spend time at field level. Ability to work under pressure and in a multicultural team environment/context.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate smoothly externally and represent the humanitarian mandate of an NGO.
  • Computer knowledge (MS Office package—both in English and Bangla).
  • Experience working in a remote community/camp setting is an advantage.
